I’m a 57-year-old mom, wife, entrepreneur, licensed therapist, sister, daughter, volunteer, advocate, and friend. I enjoy Fantasy Football, music, playing cards, concerts, theater, nature, camping, dancing, singing, and hanging with family and friends. In other words, I’m not so different from you.
So why this? Why now? I’ll share a story. We were at Disneyland, which is expensive for a family of four as Disneyland costs a lot of money to gain entrance! And that doesn’t even include the need to eat or the extras like souvenirs.
So, we are sitting in the Pirates of the Caribbean line, and my kids are perusing their phones (of course they are, right!).
I decided to check my email. My bank emailed me that we have less than $500 in our checking account. Ugh. That is scary, that is stressful. How did this happen, I ask myself. Now instead of relaxing and enjoying the time with my family, I become stressed, fearful, bummed out. I transfer money into our account, but the coffers are getting low to where we won’t have cash to transfer unless something changes…. and soon!
How could we even allow it to get to this in the first place!? I’m supremely disappointed in myself. That’s it, I said to myself. I’m tired of this! I get home and devise a budget. I finally came out of denial and accepted that how we were living was unsustainable.
How did I get here? It happens when you are living above your means and trying to have the life of your dreams without the money to back it up. I learned a harsh lesson: we must scale back. But I hate that idea, we don’t live extravagantly as it is, we live virtually paycheck to paycheck.
But I am also driven. I can’t just sit back and accept this is how it has to be! I need to make more money so that we won’t be living above our means, can take our children on vacation or to Disneyland, and won’t be afraid of emails from banks telling us our account is that low.
Can we be happy without extra money? Of course! But that doesn’t mean that I must settle for less. I am fortunate to have grateful kids who are not focused on “stuff” or “luxury vacations” like some of their friends, but I want more for us. Why settle for less? I decided right then that I needed to find a way to make more money.
Thus began the quest. I started searching online and came across various ways to make money online. I want to do it online so I can still be home when the kids get home from school. I have a home office; I don’t have extra expenses, so this works. I soon realized I was completely overwhelmed and felt hopeless that any of these could be actual ways to make money. There are so many promises of getting rich or doing this, and in 3 months, you will have this! I am a natural skeptic, so I am not buying into most of this.
Then I came across an Ad on Facebook. It is about affiliate marketing, but there are no lofty promises or get-rich-quick schemes this time. This ad references a book about how a man turned his life around. He talks about how success starts within and how important it is to know the four core focus areas for online success.
The book was called The Iceberg Effect by Dean Holland (a now millionaire in over $60,000 debt), who learned hard lessons over years of successes and failures and put the main things he learned in this book. It was not a get-rich-quick scheme–this seemed natural.
The book and the teaching I got afterward changed my outlook and made me think it was possible. I have since joined a community of people in the training program that Dean Holland has put together and have already seen the benefits. For example, that’s how I learned to start blogging.
I’m excited to share the journey with anyone who is interested. I hope that what I share will help someone else who is starting.
I invite you to visit my blog often, but more importantly, I hope you will join in the journey as I share what I’m doing these days and hopefully help you along your path.
When going on this path, a community is essential so you don’t feel isolated and alone. I plan to network and make connections as most of us do this work alone in our home office and don’t interact much with the outside world.
Ultimately, I aim to provide you with some value as I share my journey, and you can learn from my successes, mistakes, and progress.
I would love to hear from you in the comments below. Here are some random pics that show a bit about me, and I plan to add to this gallery as time goes on; check back every once in a while and see what is new, but more importantly, I would love for you to engage with me on this page and share a bit about yourself:
